How to Treat Tinnitus at Home. Try This Ancient Method.
In today’s world, our ears are one of the most abused sensory organs, and we often tend to take them for granted. I see people with headphones listening to music for hours, our ears feel the same way we feel when eating something really spicy. continuous exposure to loud music could lead to problems like
- Partial or permanent Hearing loss
- Pain and feeling of pressure in the ear
- Inner ear infection
- Excessive ear wax
Above mentioned symptoms are symptomatic, apart from these if you feel stiffness in your neck and jaws, continuous headaches, nervous breakdowns, weak bones, and Losing ability to balance your body (Physiological Imbalance), you need to focus on your ears health. Nowadays one of the most common symptoms of an auditory problem is known as Tinnitus. Tinnitus is commonly described as a ringing in the ears, but it also can sound like roaring, clicking, hissing, or buzzing. It may be soft or loud, high pitched or low pitched. You might hear it in either one or both ears.
Roughly 10 percent of the adult population of the United States has experienced tinnitus lasting at least five minutes in the past year. This amounts to nearly 25 million US citizens. but tinnitus is not a disease, it’s a warning symptom that something is wrong with your ear or auditory system. sometimes a couple of drops of water blocking the ear canal can cause tinnitus.
In older people, tinnitus could get triggered by certain medicines, or it could be an early sign of hearing loss.
People who live or work in a noisy environment, such as factory workers, traffic workers, and even musicians can develop tinnitus over time. when overexposure to noise damages the nerves in the inner ear that transmits the sound from the eardrum to the brain. This condition is called noise-induced hearing loss.
Military service members exposed to nearby bomb blasts can develop tinnitus if the shock wave of the explosion squeezes the eardrum and damages the connecting nerves to brain tissue in areas that help process sound. In fact, tinnitus is one of the most common service-related disabilities among veterans who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan.
In more serious conditions like brain damage, tumor, and blood flow-related injuries patients often complain about rhythmic pulsing sensation in the inner ears. this condition is known as pulsatile tinnitus. doctors may be able to hear it by placing the stethoscope against the neck.
According to WHO by 2050 nearly 2.5 billion people are projected to have some degree of hearing loss and at least 700 will require hearing rehabilitation.
in this article, we will be discussing how our daily lifestyle is damaging our hearing ability making us more vulnerable to tinnitus, and how we can protect our ear naturally.
How Does Noise Cause Hearing Loss?
Our ears are made up of 3 parts that work together to process sound waves. These are the outer ear, middle ear, and inner ear, our inner ear contains tiny hair-like cells, that receive and sends the sound waves to the brain to process it. loud noise can damage these hair cells in the region called cochlea, over time as more and more hair cells get damaged, hearing capability gets worse and worse.
In addition to damaging hair cells, prolonged loud noise can also damage the auditory nerve that carries information about sound waves to your brain. Early damage may be asymptomatic on your hearing test. It can create a ‘hidden hearing loss’ that may make it difficult for you to understand other people speaking in noisy places. The effect of loud noise over time affects how well you might hear later in life. It also affects how quickly you might develop hearing problems, even after exposure to loud noise has stopped.
Apart from loud noises, the following are the key reasons for hearing loss
- Prolonged use of earphones
- Long phone conversations
- Wrong use of cotton earbuds
- Poking with fingers or something sharp that could cause infection
- Rubbing of ears
- Excessive Stress
To minimize the effects of cell phones always use loudspeakers of the phone when in private, In public use earphones with noise levels not more than 60% of the maximum, in fact, we must accustom ourselves to hearing at low volume.
In case of a noisy workplace, earplugs can be your ears prince charming, cheap, and highly effective this pocket-friendly device is a boon for the ears, just roll and plug into the peace.
Also, don’t be paranoid about cleaning your ears daily, and pocking them with cotton buds on a daily basis. Our ears are self-cleaning organs, Ear wax is very important not just for protection from harmful environmental damage and dirt but also for lubrication of the ear. Ear wax also protects the ears from various viral infections.
So How to clean our ears and get rid of Tinnitus
According to the ancient ayurvedic text from India, our ears are Vata (Air Elements) organs and affect our bone tissue layer and nervous system. Ayurveda provides the three-level of ear oiling techniques for each need to effectively and safely clean ears and treat tinnitus,
Abstain from ear oiling in case of fluid buildup in-ear or ruptured eardrum.
Level 1 of Ear Oiling: According to the Ayurveda oiling the body daily can keep the internal harmony of the body in check, Ayurveda prefers oil massage to such extent that even if a person does not have time for full-body oiling, one must at least oil the 3 parts of the body
- Inside of the ear
- Soles of the feet
The first level of the ear is for those who don’t have any problem with ears and want to keep the ears in optimum health for a longer period of time,
To do this, first after taking bath gently clean & dry your ears with a clean cloth, Then with your fingers gently apply the pure cold-pressed oil to the inside of the ears, this could be any oil but for best results try Sesame oil, and make sure not to use any of those commercial essential oils, I say again no essential oils, only pure cold-pressed sesame oil.
This teqnique will not only keep the daily ear problems at bay, but also you will notice excess ear wax coming out easily and naturally. This follows the principle that oil has the ability to attach itself to dirt like soap molecules. hence cleansing the ear canal.
Level 2: Level 2 of ear oiling is for those who live an active outdoor lifestyle, If you swim regularly, Often suffer from inner ear infections, suffer from earache, and if your workplace is exposed to heavy noises, you must use this next level of oiling.
To do this you need garlic oil, and again no store-bought oil, most ear infections are viral and thus remain untreated by antibiotic treatments, Garlic which is popular for its antibacterial and antiviral properties is so useful for the inner ear viral infections.
How to make Garlic Oil:
Step 1: Take 50 ml of cold-pressed sesame oil in the pan
Step 2: Add 3 to 4 cloves of freshly peeled crushed garlic to the pan
Step 3: Let the garlic cook on low flame until garlic turns brownish
Step 4: Strain the oil in a glass container and let it cool.
Now you have to insert the warm oil into the ear, make sure to check the temperature of the oil before putting it in ear, then dip the cloth or gauze in the oil, and apply the first centimeter of the ear canal, and that’s it
Store the oil for future use, just make sure to warm the oil by placing the bottle in warm water. doing this 2 to 3 times a week would do wonders to your ear.
Level 3: This is the level for those who are suffering from tinnitus, feeling of pressure and pain in the ear, stiffness of the neck and jaws, and physiological imbalance. this level is known as the Karnapuran technique in ancient texts of Ayurveda.
To do this warm sesame oil and fill it in the outer canal of the ear and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes, after 15 minutes oil can be cleaned off by sitting up and facing to the other side so that the oil drains out directly out of the year and not to go into the sinus cavities. pouring can be done by dropper or sterilized cotton. as the ear is vata primary organ this is the best way to draw excess air elements, if your problem is related to vata, you could see the air bubbles in the oil.
You can do it before sleeping once a month for optimum ear health. and make sure there is no tear in the eardrum and no fluid drainage in the ear.
even though modern medical science does not suggest practicing the oiling of the ear, Ayurveda informs that Karnapurna is capable of reversing major ear problems like
- Hearing loss
- Ear pressure or pain
- Ear infections
- Excessive wax
- Stiffness of the neck.
